LIVERPOOL’S Scandinavian Seaman’s Church has celebrated its 125th anniversary.
Dame Lorna Muirhead, the current Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside joined the Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Cllr Mike Storey and other dignitaries for a special service yesterday.
Among the 120 strong congregation were members of Norway and Germany’s honorary council and a former minister who preached in the 1950s, who joined the celebration.
The distinctive building on Park Lane was originally called Gustav Adolfs Church, offering services to visiting Swedish seaman.
Known as the world’s oldest original Swedish Seamen’s Church abroad, the church has been fighting closure for the past few years.
