Phones off after cables stolen in Warrington

TELEPHONE and internet services have been reinstated after thieves stole cabling from a British Telecom junction box.

Around 1,500 homes and businesses in the Great Sankey area of Warrington were left without landline telephones or internet for over 24 hours.

Cheshire Police advised residents in Westbrook and Callands to use mobile phones in the case of emergency after the vandalism at 9pm on Friday night.

Three men were arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage and are being questioned by police.

BT worked over the weekend to replace two underground sections of major cable link each measuring 90 metres.

Police also stepped up patrols in the area to reassure residents in the affected areas.

Services were fully restored by yesterday lunchtime.
