Knowsley pupils beat national Key Stage Two average for first time

But figures are expected to show Liverpool pupils remain below the UK average 244 aggregate score across all three subjects it achieved last year.

City pupils making the grade in English has fallen from 80 to 78%; maths risen from 77 to 78 and science remains at 87%.

But an upbeat Cllr Keith Turner, Liverpool council’s executive member for education stressed: “The city has again closed the gap on national attainment figures. Our rate of improvement over the last three years is also well above the national average.

“Liverpool is placed second out of eight in the league table of core cities for these results.”

Sefton pupils remain above the average with rises in maths but a slight drop in science and English.

Wirral pupils have also dipped in English, but stay above the national average with rises science and maths.
