STEPHEN HESFORD was threatened with legal action for failing to pay his council tax bill on time, according to the second home receipts.
The Wirral West MP, who faces a tough fight to survive at next year's election, was also slapped on the wrist for submitting numerous claims without the necessary proof.
And the receipts appear to show that he claimed the monthly maximum of £400 for food even during the August recess, when MPs do not need a second home.
Some expenses' claims – for maintenance (£150) and for paint (£50) – were rejected by the fees office, because of no receipts.
Then, in March this year, the fees office wrote to Mr Hesford saying: "I note that you claim regular nominal amounts for cleaning, services/maintenance and repairs/insurance/security.
"We would expect members to claim for actual amounts and not nominal sums."
Two months later, Mr Hesford’s £800 claim for two months' food was thrown out, because rules now restricted claims to £25 per named day. The council tax dispute came in April when Lambeth Council ordered him to pay £122.60 within 10 days, or lose his entitlement to pay by instalments.
