Hillsborough memorial garden
PORT Sunlight’s Hillsborough Memorial will be re-built after Christmas after a fund-raising appeal raised £23,000.
The total is £3,000 short of the appeal target of £26,000, but means contractors can be hired and materials ordered for the project. CCTV cameras are to be installed.
The memorial and surrounding garden should be restored by the spring.
Pledges of free labour, publicity materials and cash donations have flooded in since the stonework surrounding the memorial was destroyed by vandals in June.
A handful of fund-raising events will take place early next year, which organisers at Port Sunlight Village Trust hope will bring the final total up to the original target. Kath Lynch, manager of Port Sunlight Museum, said: “The support from within the village has been especially pleasing.
“We have received sizeable donations from various groups, businesses and individuals.”
