MERSEYSIDERS are being encouraged to make friends – for the good of their future health.
2010 is the official Year of Health and Wellbeing in the region, and city leaders have put forward a set of ideas they believe will improve people’s lives.
Their advice includes playing a game, starting a course, volunteering, making friends and “being curious”.
The host of suggestions come under five overall titles – Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, Keep Learning and Give.
The year was officially launched yesterday at an event in Liverpool Town Hall.
Once 2010 is under way, there will be hundreds of activities for communities to get involved in, from sporting events to charity days.
Gideon Ben-Tovim, chairman of Liverpool Primary Care Trust, was instrumental in setting up the year ahead.
He said: “We felt there was something that needed to be done to promote the great positive health aspects of the city – like football, music, and its prominent health institutions.
“We have some serious health inequalities, but things are improving.”
