AN ELDERLY woman was killed yesterday when an ambulance rapid response vehicle and a car collided, emergency services said.
The West Midlands Ambulance Service vehicle had its emergency lights flashing and its sirens blaring when the accident happened on the A51 in Lichfield, Staffordshire.
The driver of the car suffered serious injuries and, although resuscitation attempts were made, it was not possible to save her and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 72-year-old female passenger in the blue Ford Ka was airlifted to Selly Oak Hospital, Birmingham, with head and chest injuries.
