Hundreds stranded as snow shuts JLA
HUNDREDS of passengers were stranded at Liverpool John Lennon Airport last night after a downpour of snow.
The deluge left two flights cancelled and around 300 passengers needing to change their Christmas getaway plans.
Another flight was delayed and two inbound flights were diverted to East Midlands Airport, near Nottingham.
The snow started to settle at around 9.30pm.
Airport workers then spent two hours battling to clear the tarmac before JLA re-opened.
Airport spokesman Robin Tudor said: “There were huge areas to clear, which is why staff worked into the night to make sure flights are landing at the airport.
“It was quite a downpour – it affected Manchester as well.
“We’re advising passengers to check with their airline what their plans are.”
