MANAGEMENT at the Royal Liverpool Hospital are boosting their security in the wake of a gun scare.

A gunman threatened a 65-year-old man after storming into the main washrooms by the Royal’s reception area and demanding cash.

The stunned victim was then confronted with a silver handgun.

When the victim, who was visiting a poorly loved one at the hospital, refused to hand over any money, the thug assaulted him.

It is thought the gunman then darted through to the back of the hospital and fled on to Pembroke Place.

The pensioner received minor head injuries in the scuffle but police say he has been left “very shaken” by the ordeal.

It happened just before 6pm on Christmas Eve and police say the offender is still at large.
