THE number of badly behaved Merseyside pupils being moved from one school to another has rocketed.
Figures show that primary schoolchildren given “a fresh start” in St Helens almost doubled within a year.
The switching of high school pupils displaying “challenging behaviour” is also on the rise.
Council chiefs insist the statistics were borne out of its requirement to “ensure all schools and academies admit their fair share of children with challenging behaviour.” But unions fear schools may be washing their hands of problem pupils rather than addressing behavioural issues.
The process is called a “managed transfer” and pupils involved are often at risk of exclusion such as bullies.
