Merseyside’s most costly places to live revealed
FOUR streets in Merseyside and Cheshire have been named as among the top 30 most expensive places to live in the North-West.
According to latest research from the Halifax, Caldy, in Wirral, has the costliest road to buy a house in Merseyside.
Mereworth, adjacent to Caldy golf course, has an average house price of £647,954 based on data from the Land Registry and Royal Mail between September, 2005, to September, 2009, and was number 19 on the list for the North-West.
Dowhills Drive, in Crosby, came in at number 23 with an average price of £626,663 and at number 28 was Yew Tree Road, in Allerton – next to Calderstones Park – at £590,733.
High Warren Close, in Warrington, was at number 16 with an average price of £652,096.
However estate agent, Paul Lea, of Bradshaw, Farnham and Lea, said he doubted the survey accurately indicated the truly most expensive locations in Merseyside.
He said: “Mereworth is quite a modern location, but without doubt King’s Drive – also in Caldy – is the most expensive road in Wirral.
“We sold a building plot just off King’s Drive for £1.4m. The survey is not a true reflection of the market.”
Mr Lea added: “Caldy, because it’s such a small area, only needs one person to come in and buy to make a difference.”
Mr Lea said Yew Tree Road included a variety of properties, although the sale of one for £1.4m had probably affected the average. The 10 most expensive streets in the North-West are all in areas situated to the south of Manchester.
These include Withinlee Road, in Macclesfield, which, at an average of £1,205,833, made it the most expensive road outside the south of England.
Park Lane, in Altrincham (£1,167,500), Eyebrook Road, in Altrincham (£1,090,916), Macclesfield Road, in Alderley Edge (£1,018,948) and Pownal Road, in Stockport (£1,004,215) were also among the priciest places to buy a home.
The 10 most expensive streets are all in Greater London. Wycombe Square, in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, is the most expensive street in England and Wales, with an average property price of £5,401,447.
