Veteran Liverpool broadcaster Phil Easton among most mourned celebrities, according to online tribute site Lasting Tribute

VETERAN broadcaster Phil Easton was named in the top 10 of the most mourned famous faces this year.

There were more messages of condolence for the Liverpool FC match day announcer than film star Patrick Swayze and Boyzone singer Stephen Gately.

Mr Easton’s page on the online tribute site Lasting Tribute attracted messages from friends, football fans and radio listeners.

Close friend and DJ Pete Price said: “It is fantastic Phil is in the top 10, he would probably say ‘Hey Pricey, I’ve shown you’.

“I was overwhelmed by the amount of people who came to his memorial at Liverpool Cathedral in February. He certainly set the standard that day.

“He was such a lovely man. He was Liverpool Football Club and he was Radio City. It is appropriate he is remembered along with greats like Patrick Swayze.”

Mr Easton suffered a brain haemorrhage shortly after presenting his breakfast show on Liverpool’s City Talk.
