Liverpool teachers shovel snow to allow pupils to take exams

MORE than 70 teachers grabbed their shovels to help Gateacre Community Comprehensive open for pupils today, right.

They spent most of yesterday morning battling ice and snow to make the Grange Lane school safe.

Students there will take their exams this week.

Liverpool city council said most schools were expected to open today.

Among the schools due to remain closed were St Pascal Baylon primary school in Childwall, although staff were told to report by 10am.

Blackmoor Park infants and junior school in West Derby and West Derby Children’s Centre were also expected to remain closed.

Most secondary schools have A-level exams taking place this week and these will all be open today.

A city council spokesman said: “Enterprise-Liverpool has had teams out all weekend gritting around many primary and secondary schools.”
