CHESTER city centre will be welcoming a heavyweight new arrival this year – a one-metre high bronze elephant donated by Chester Zoo.
The elephant – created by Hampshire-based sculptress Annette Yarrow – mirrors the bronze elephant calf near the main entrance of the city’s 110-acre zoo.
It was gifted by the zoo to the city to demonstrate the links between them.
Alasdair McNee, corporate director for Chester Zoo, said: “We wanted to bring some of that experience to the city centre and to demonstrate the strong links between Chester and its famous zoo.”
