Wirral charities clash over claim of £48,000 unpaid rent

Charity money row

The row could also have political implications for the Leasowe and Moreton East ward where Lorraine Krimou, managing director of the Well-being Centre, had been selected as the prospective Labour candidate.

The ward is already represented by Labour's Cllr Abbey, but at the last local election voted in its first Conservative councillor making this year’s up-coming election more critical for Labour.

When contacted by the Daily Post, Lorraine Krimou said she had stepped down as the Labour candidate for this year's local elections, but added that she was now considering putting herself forward again.

The management at the Well-Being Centre said they did not want to comment on the issue of the disputed rent.

Cllr Abbey said, despite party allegiances, it was important to "divorce yourself from one organisation you represent".

He said: "I sit on many different boards and I have to represent that board when I'm there. Although I represent the council, I can't say to another body I can't represent you properly because the council's interests come first."

Cllr Abbey said he hoped a decision on the unpaid rent would be made within months.
