Wirral Council
THE developer of a major £25m regeneration scheme for Birkenhead has been on the verge of being dropped by the council.
The ambitious plans were intended to create 1,000 jobs and see a casino, 120-bed hotel and a restaurant and office blocks built close to Conway Park Station.
But a report heard in secret by Wirral Council’s cabinet has said because of the lack of progress on the proposals the site should be re-marketed.
Last week Wirral Council’s ruling cabinet deferred making a decision on the recommendation that the “development agreement be terminated”.
The report said: “No substantive information has been provided on the question of funding arrangements.”
The delay gives the Europa Plaza Developments more time to put financing into place.
