Wirral 60
A MAN who stabbed his wife more than 500 times at their home has been granted leave to appeal against the length of his jail sentence.
Robert Bailey, 46, of Locker Park, Greasby in Wirral, was jailed for at least 20 years at Liverpool Crown Court after admitting murdering his wife, Elaine.
Mrs Bailey, the mother of his three children, was so badly injured pathologists could not count the exact number of wounds she suffered.
She was identified from her dental records.
However, Bailey has claimed he was too harshly punished and on Friday he was granted leave to appeal against his sentence at the Court Of Appeal.
Mr Justice Beatson said the unusual nature of the killing and lack of information about Bailey’s mental condition given to the sentencing judge “troubled” the court.
Bailey used a variety of knives to kill Mrs Bailey in September 2008.
