In a letter to bidders, Alder Hey bosses also revealed their aspirations. They said: “The design brief for Alder Hey children’s hospital is ‘if we have seen it done before, it’s the wrong solution’, such is the level of expectation and anticipation of being truly blown away by this unprecedented opportunity to create a child- focused health park.”
Mr Glenn said 50% of patients will have their own rooms.
They will be set aside for teenage patients and those who need to be treated away from other children.
The hi-tech new building will also have a WiFi network that patients can log into with their computers.
Using bedside laptops, they may also be able to control the colour of the rooms and chat and play video games with other youngsters.
The best bidder will be chosen by the end of March, 2012, and building should start that spring.
