Tributes paid following death of former Knowsley mayor

TRIBUTES were paid to a formerMayor of Knowsley who died at home surrounded by his family.

Stockbridge councillor Mick Foulkes served as mayor between 2008-2009 and as a borough councillor for more than 20 years.

He died on January 10 following an illness.

He was survived by his wife, Frances, and son, Mike.

As mayor, he raised more than £46,000 for his chosen charities – the Alzheimer’s Society, Liverpool Voluntary Society for the Blind and Adolescent Mental Health Services.

Cllr Ron Round, leader of Knowsley Council, said: “I offer sincerest sympathies to Frances, Mike and their family at this extremely sad time.

“Mick was dedicated to serving the people of Knowsley and did so with great distinction.

“During his year as mayor, he was an excellent ambassador for Knowsley and raised a great deal of money for charities.”

Cllr Foulkes’ funeral will be held at St Alberts Church on Thursday at 12pm.
