BILL Esterson will be the Labour party candidate for Sefton Central in the coming general election.
He beat local Paul Cummins and Paula Gouldbourn, and Stockport civil servant Peter D'Souza to win the candidacy.
Mr Esterson trained with a large accountancy firm and later became a director of a training consultancy.
In 1995 he became a Labour councillor in Medway. He and his wife have two adopted children.
He said: “I'm proud to have been selected by the members of Sefton. Claire Curtis Thomas has served the constituency with great pride for more than 12 years – campaigning on Labour values that she cherished; equal rights for all, fighting for the environment and standing by the vulnerable.
“I intend to prove to the residents of Crosby, Formby and Maghull that I can win this seat and, more importantly, that I can do the best possible job in representing them.”
