Submarine back on public display at Woodside Ferry Terminal in Wirral

A FULL-SIZE replica of the world’s first mechanically-propelled submarine is back at the Woodside Ferry Terminal, in Wirral, after a facelift.

The 10-ton replica of the Resurgam has returned from the Maritime and Engineering College, North West – formerly the Laird Foundation – in Birkenhead where students helped in the refurbishment. Merseytravel chief executive Neil Scales said: “She’s looking as good as new and I know she’ll prove to be a popular addition to the U-Boat Story attraction. We’ve also repositioned Resurgam so she is now displayed more prominently for visitors.”

The original Resurgam was built in Birkenhead in 1879 by Cochran and Co.
