Facebook and marketing campaign helps cut pregnancies in Wirral

A FACEBOOK and internet marketing campaign has helped Wirral lead the way on reducing teenage pregnancies.

Official figures are due out next month, but, according to the latest data, teen pregnancies have fallen from a high of 314 in 1998 to 191, in the first nine months of 2008. If reflected in the official data, it shows Wirral to be bucking the national and regional trend.

In a joint statement, a spokeswoman for Wirral Council and NHS Wirral said: “While this reduction is very positive news, the factors behind teenage pregnancy are highly complex, and we still have a way to go to reach our targets for 2010.

“Through initiatives such as our ‘Be You’ campaign, and our extended health services in schools, we will continue to work with NHS Wirral, to focus on prevention and raising young people’s aspirations.”
