A PRIEST has blessed a Merseyside football pitch to end the team’s run of bad fortune.
Father John Ealey, a parish priest at St Aloysius in Roby, said a prayer and poured holy water on the pitch at non-league Marine AFC’s Arriva stadium in Crosby.
Team manager Kevin Lynch asked for the blessing after Marine lost their last five games and were knocked out of two cup competitions since a prospective victory against Whitby was scrubbed out due to floodlight failure.
Injuries suffered at the club also include three players having broken legs.
