APARTMENTS to give the families of sick children a private place to stay at Alder Hey have been given the green light.
Liverpool City Council has approved plans to build an extension to the current Ronald McDonald House at the hospital.
The three-storey block of 15 one-bedroom flats will cost £1.5m, and another £200,000 is needed to reach the target.
The charity currently provides families with a place to stay while their children are being treated, but staff say more accommodation is needed.
The flats will give parents of children with long-term health problems more privacy.
Jan Thomas, House Director, said: “Ronald McDonald House at Alder Hey is the UK’s biggest Ronald McDonald House.
“With 69 family bedrooms, we are always full to bursting.”
