Three people held, one released over death of 17-year-old Lewis O’Brien

AN 18-YEAR-OLD man arrested on suspicion of murdering a teenager has been released on bail.

The 18-year-old was questioned in relation to the death of Lewis O’Brien.

The 17-year-old was shot dead at a friend’s house on Wednesday night in Hathersage Road, Huyton.

A 39-year old woman, held on suspicion of assisting an offender, has also been released with no further action being taken.

Two youths, aged 15 and 17, all from the Huyton area, remain in police custody.

Police were called to the road shortly before 4pm after reports from neighbours a boy had been shot.

Lewis O’Brien was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police are still trying to piece together what happened but among the theories is that his death was an accident after the gun went off.

They are also looking at whether someone else shot him, either on purpose or by accident.

Residents have suggested O’Brien, known by his nickname OB, was part of a group calling themselves the “Longy Lads”.

They claim the group rivals were youths on Huyton’s Bakers Green estate and there had been shots fired between them.
