ANOTHER of the region's MPs has announced he is quitting Parliament at the looming General Election, this time for health reasons.
Mike Hall, Labour MP for Weaver Vale, said he faced the prospect of further surgery and wanted to ensure he stood the best chance of making a full recovery.
First elected in the Warrington South constituency in 1992, Mr Hall became MP for Weaver Vale when the seat – stretching from Runcorn down to Northwich – was created five years later.
In recent years, the 57-year-old former teacher has fought hard for the Daresbury campus, in his constituency, and against the so-called “rain tax”, which has triggered huge hikes in water bills for churches.
Andrew Miller, the Ellesmere Port and Neston MP, paid tribute to Mr Hall, saying he had "worked extremely hard, both as a councillor and as an MP since 1992, doing his best for local people".
