A LIVERPOOL study has found that more than 125m pregnancies around the world are at risk from malaria every year.Š
Until now, estimates have only been available for endemic areas in Africa.Š
The Malaria in Pregnancy Consortium was established in 2007 at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine to improve the control of malaria in pregnancy.Š
This figure represents 60% of all pregnancies globally, and although the study does not provide information on the actual number of women infected with malaria during pregnancy, it does make an important contribution to the understanding of the problem.
