A rose by any other name would smell as sweet . . .

AN ESTIMATED 1bn red roses will be cut and sold this Valentine’s Day, but a city restaurant is doing its bit to encourage its diners to nurture and not cut their flowers in full bloom.

Rather than giving away cut flowers to its diners, Panoramic is offering rose plants that will live on long after the meal is finished.

Britain’s highest restaurant has enlisted Donna Griffiths, owner of Pure Floral Design, to create a bespoke Valentine’s package, including romantically themed rose varieties – Champagne Moment, Valentine Heart and L’aiment.

She said: “When Panoramic asked me to come up with an original gift idea to go with their Valentine’s menu, I thought I’d come up with something that lasts as long as the memories of the evening rather than the usual single red rose that only lasts for a day or so.

“I’m putting together some rose plants which diners can take home and plant in the garden and watch grow year after year.”

Restaurant manager at Panoramic Oliver Hawthorne is excited about the idea. “We’re not your average restaurant, so why give an average gift? We knew Donna would come up with something quirky. It’s a fun idea and I hope everyone likes it.”
