Liverpool postal workers climb for heroes

TWO Merseyside postal workers will climb 15 mountains in just 24 hours in honour of their friend who was wounded in Afghanistan.

Distributions manager Peter Byrne and postman Mike Wood will climb the 15 highest peaks in Wales to raise money for Help for Heroes.

Their friend, Royal Marine Aaron Moon, broke several bones including his shoulder, vertebrae, pelvis, thigh and leg when he was caught in a blast.

He also shattered his heel, ruptured his spleen and the blast wounded his right arm.

Peter, who works at Copperas Hill in the city centre and Mike, who works in St Helens, will cover an estimated 30 miles to complete the Welsh 3000s challenge.

Peter said: “We wanted to do our bit for the troops who fight for our country.”

The pair will undertake their challenge on March 4.
