But Mr Reilly revealed that the company still needs financial support from Governments where it has car plants, including the UK, and that talks are still ongoing.
The restructuring also requires 8,300 job cuts which will hit mainland Europe hardest – the UK will lose 523 roles at the Luton plant, including 154 administrative staff.
Mr Hoben admitted: “This has been one of the toughest issues for management to contemplate, but we are obliged to protect the majority of jobs in Opel/Vauxhall.”
