Repair hope for Liverpool roads riddled with potholes

“CRATER” ridden roads leading to a flagship city park could be repaired after a furious row.

Greenbank ward councillor Paul Clein set aside cash from their neighbourhood fund to repair Greenbank Drive and Croxteth Drive, which lead to Sefton Park.

But city council officials refused to sign off the work claiming that if the work is not done to a high enough standard it could make the authority liable for anyone who is injured or damages a vehicle on the un-adopted roads.

The row led Cllr Clein to suggest that the council Chief Executive Colin Hilton and other top managers be docked 8% of their bonus pay for each month that the repairs were outstanding.

He said: “Sefton Park is one of the jewels in the crown of the city and it is not right that these roads are in this condition.

“We are spending £6m to improve the park, yet people have to drive over these roads.

“They are in a terrible state, so we set aside some money from the neighbourhood fund to pay to have the pot holes filled.”

He said after a row behind the scenes he was increasingly confident that the repairs would go ahead.
