Maghull doctor found with cocaine in his surgery is reinstated

A MERSEYSIDE GP who had cocaine in his surgery has been allowed to practise again by the General Medical Council (GMC).

A panel ruled Dr Fabrizio Equizi’s fitness to practise was impaired, but decided to put conditions on his registration, as opposed to banning him from the profession.

Traces of the Class A drug were found on Dr Equizi’s desk at Claremont medical centre in Maghull in 2005, and he was taken off the list

of registered doctors in Sefton.

The cocaine was found after the death of Equizi’s housemate and former patient from a drugs overdose.

At a hearing last year, the GMC concluded Dr Equizi, of Red Cat Lane, St Helens, had a lack of insight, and misjudged a “vulnerable and manipulative” patient by letting him stay with him.

The panel refrained from striking him off because of positive testimonials.

They banned him from practising for a year, and the review hearing was for Dr Equizi to prove he deserved to be reinstated.
