Upgrade works on Liverpool's Rice Lane cause road chaos

MORE traffic delays are expected around Rice Lane as road works are extended.

The northbound carriageway of the A59, Walton, has been closed between Hornby Road and Cavendish Drive since January 18 as part of the £1.2m improvement works.

But yesterday and today the city bound approach to the roundabout at the junction of Rice Lane and Queens Drive is also down to one lane for carriageway resurfacing works. The closure caused more chaos for city commuters.

One Rice Lane resident said: “It’s disgraceful what’s going on.

“I was in the worst traffic jam ever. It was tail to tail from Queens Drive to the Black Bull. Residents around here are livid.”

He added: “People who live in the area are angry because they have had to put up with these delays for ages.”
