PRINCE Edward came to Merseyside yesterday to visit a local hospice and open a new school building.
The Prince chatted with staff and patients at Woodlands Hospice, on the site of Fazakerley Hospital.
He also got the chance to take a look at the hospice’s latest facilities, which include 15 palliative care beds.
They opened last year in brand new premises alongside the outpatient hospice, and allow patients to stay at the sight to receive care, instead of in hospital. The original hospice opened in 1991.
His Royal Highness drank tea with patients and chatted to staff about their work.
He also visited Birkenhead School to open a new prep building and mark the school’s 150th anniversary celebrations.
He was joined by the Mayor and Mayoress of Wirral, Cllr Andrew and Kathy Chapman Hodson, High Sheriff of Merseyside David McDonnell and Chief Executive of Wirral Council, Steve Maddox.
