Lewis Urmston-Brown
A MERSEY paramedic failed to adequately assess a two-year-old boy who died after falling off a climbing frame, a hearing has heard.
Andrew Orme was called out to examine little Lewis Urmson- Brown when he banged his head near his home in Runcorn.
The toddler was not taken to hospital that evening, but woke during the night frothing at the mouth and later died at hospital.
Now the paramedic has appeared before the Health Professions Council to examine his conduct.
The three-day hearing took place in Manchester last week and was adjourned to a date later this month.
As part of a multi-handed charge indictment, it is alleged Mr Orme’s “clinical assessment skills were deficient” when he “failed to assess Lewis’ injury” and “failed to convey him to hospital”.
The youngster was examined at his home in Medway at 7.40pm on June 15, 2008, but was not taken to hospital.
Hours later, Lewis was found unconscious in the middle of the night and rushed to Warrington hospital, where he died.
It later emerged Lewis had suffered a fractured skull in the playground either from throwing himself on the floor in a tantrum, or his dad Chris, 41, dropping him while carrying him home, according to different accounts told at the youngster’s inquest.
Speaking after his son’s death, Mr Brown said: “They didn’t even check him over or look in his eyes with the torch.
“They said to us ‘what did you call us out for? There’s nothing wrong with him.’
