Merseytravel to shed jobs in name of efficiency

A Merseytravel spokesperson said a total figure for job losses and cost savings could not be given as the process was ongoing.

He said: “There have been no compulsory redundancies but in the current economic climate Merseytravel must look to reducing costs.

“We have been working in partnership to integrate all aspects our operations into one organisation to reduce duplication and increase efficiencies.

“This has been done through a process of voluntary severance, early retirement and careful management of vacancies.

“By April next year we will have reduced staffing levels commensurate to the needs of the business.”

Last year it was reported Merseytravel was having to make up a £13m budget deficit.
