John Prescott’s son David in the running to stand for Labour in Weaver Vale
JOHN Prescott’s son David is in the running to become a Labour candidate in the Mersey constituency of Weaver Vale.
Mr Prescott junior joins three others on the Labour party list to replace outgoing MP Mike Hall.
He announced he was standing down from the seat, which stretches from Runcorn to Northwich, last month.
Former Ellesmere Port and Neston council leader Justin Madders is also on the list alongside constituency secretary John Stockton and Labour party policy officer Ben Johnson.
Once considered safe Labour territory, it is now a key seat for David Cameron and one the Conservatives must win to have an outright majority.
Labour has a notional majority of 4,750, requiring a swing of just over 6% for the seat to fall to the Tories.
A hustings for the seat was held yesterday and the result of the constituency vote for the candidate is due to be announced on Wednesday.
Mr Prescott, 39, is an influential figure in the national party.
