Chester Science Festival starts tomorrow

TALKS on takeaway food, going carbon neutral and wildlife crime are all part of Chester Science Festival this week.

The series of events are being held at the University of Chester from tomorrow to Saturday.

Festival director Professor Graham Bonwick said he hopes the mixture of lectures and interactive displays will appeal to all ages.

He said: “Whether you are interested in becoming more environmentally-friendly or want to know what is really in your takeaway meal, we hope there will be something for everyone.”

The first event on Wednesday evening will be a free talk by Professor Roy Alexander on the tactics Ashton Hayes residents are using in their quest to become England’s first carbon-neutral community.

On Thursday, Martin Findlow, of Cheshire Police, will tell how officers are fighting wildlife crime such as badger baiting, illegal importation and trade of endangered species and stealing the eggs of birds of prey.

A whole day is being devoted to food by the festival on Saturday.
