Edge Lane West scheme approved by Liverpool council’s planning committee

LIVERPOOL councillors have approved plans for 188 new homes at Edge Lane.

The new development will replace the deteriorating Victorian villas lining the busy road and were described at the planning committee meeting as a “marked improvement”.

No objections to the scheme were made yesterday after amendments were made to the application, which was originally submitted in January 2008.

The plans include 42 flats, 73 duplex apartments, 67 houses and six bungalows.

It is hoped progress on the scheme can be made in early 2011 following the demolition of the 371 existing houses, making way for the new homes and open space.

Developer Bellway said the site provides an “important gateway to the city”, with the multi-million pound project due to be completed in the next three years.
