Wirral hospital plans cuts to save £13m a year

Mr Richards said: “More and more care is being delivered in a way which does not require patients to stay in hospital overnight.

“Ultimately, these changes will mean we need 29 fewer whole-time equivalent posts in the medical services division, but we do not envisage making any compulsory redundancies.”

Leah Fraser, prospective Conservative MP for Wallasey, said: “I have been contacted by a number of nurses, worried about the future of the local health service as news of these cuts has leaked out.

“We were promised, when wards 6 and 7 closed at Wallasey’s Victoria Central Hospital, any patient who was not ready to return home would be offered alternative care at Arrowe Park, if necessary. Now that safety net is also being axed.”
