Liverpool professor’s London Marathon training becomes internet sensation

A LIVERPOOL professor has become an internet sensation to help raise sponsorship for his London Marathon challenge.

The Walton Centre’s Tom Solomon is raising awareness and funds for the Encephalitis Society.

To promote his attempt, he has produced a film showing his training programme across famous places in Liverpool and even in Malawi.

He said: “My wife Rachel helped me chart it on video.

“The video is a bit crazy and once it got onto YouTube it grew until it became a viral.”

Prof Solomon, who heads the Liverpool Brain Infections Group, wants to use the race to raise the profile of encephalitis, an inflammation in the brain most commonly caused by viral infections.

He said: “I want to use the marathon as an opportunity to raise awareness of this disease.”
