Katherine Jenkins
BLONDE songstress Katherine Jenkins blew her audience away last night as she sang, danced and even performed circus acrobatics at the Echo arena.
The Welsh star turned her hand to tunes from Adagio to Bob Marley, Queen to Andrew Lloyd Webber.
She effortlessly flits through musical genres showing her talent would make her as comfortable on the grandest concert hall stage as a top club in Ibiza.
Lying barefoot on a bed in a silk purple gown or “frock” as she calls it, Jenkins performs Angel, made famous by the film City of Angels.
Above her, an acrobat glides through the air to the music, seductively lowering himself to the bed using ribbons wrapped around his arms.
Gasps are heard as he scoops her into his arms. High above the stage she daringly twists and turns her body around his.
The coming together of this song, this voice and this choreography is one of the show’s highlights.
Jenkins’ cover of Bob Marley’s No Woman, No Cry is not however.
She is flawless as always but the countryside set, overly smiling dancers, balloons and skipping recall a cheesy routine from an amateur dramatics pantomime.
Another number which doesn’t work is her Endless Love duet with 20-year-old French star Amaury Vassili. The lack of chemistry between them jars with the natural ease of her solos.
Evanescence’s Bring Me To Life was her finale. ŠAn on-stage costume change somehow took her from a gothic black gown into a floaty, pink ensemble while huge butterfly wings appeared behind, filling the stage.
Jenkins truly emerges as a beautiful performer who it is a pleasure to watch.
