Wirral scoops top award at Keep Britain Tidy awards

WIRRAL Council scooped a top award at the prestigious Keep Britain Tidy awards.

The borough won the Tidy Business category at the annual ceremony, staged at the Midland Hotel in Manchester – the first time it has earned the top prize at the national awards.

The honour, presented by TV comic Ruby Wax, follows the council’s work with its Tidy Business scheme, to which it only signed up in August 2008.

At the end of last year, the council helped more than 90% of businesses in Oxton achieve Tidy Business status, which led to Keep Britain Tidy officially naming Oxton its first-ever Tidy Business Village.

More than 100 businesses have so far been assessed and awarded Tidy Business statues.

Such is the success of the Wirral scheme, Keep Britain Tidy is using the borough’s model to further promote the scheme with other councils around the country.
