ONE of the UK’s top prisoners’ rights lawyers is reported to be representing James Bulger killer Jon Venables.
Simon Creighton, of London-based Batt Murphy Solicitors, is understood to be representing Venables after he was recently returned to custody.
Earlier this month, Justice Secretary Jack Straw ruled the release of any further details of why Venables was back in prison would wreck a potential future trial.
Mr Straw had faced down critics demanding to know why Jon Venables allegedly breached parole conditions.
Mr Creighton – who is described as one of the country’s leading specialists in prison law – is understood to be acting for Jon Venables, who is now 27 years old.
Venables and his accomplice Robert Thompson were just 10 when they battered two-year-old James to death 17 years ago.
They were both released on lifelong licence in 2001.
Last night, no one from Batt Murphy Solicitors was available for comment.
