Kay Kelly’s funeral held at Liverpool’s Metropolitan Cathedral

MORE than 150 mourners paid their respects to veteran campaigner Kay Kelly yesterday at her funeral.

The service was held at the Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral within its Blessed Sacrament chapel, where Mrs Kelly went to mass every morning.

Two priests led the service, Canon Antony O‘Brien and Father Francis Bermingham.

Father Bermingham spoke of Mrs Kelly’s charity work, raising £1m pounds for Clatterbridge Hospital in the 1970s.

He also paid tribute to her devotion to the church.

The 66-year-old from Walton died eight days ago at the Royal Liverpool Hospital from a cancer-related lung infection.

In the 1970s, her recovery from Hodgkins Disease shocked doctors after their initial bleak diagnosis – and she then became a legendary campaigning figure in her home city.
