“BEFORE God, we are all equally wise and equally foolish,” said Einstein.
Yesterday, Liverpool’s Cllr Colin Eldridge proved as much when he appeared to have fallen for the Liverpool Daily Post’s elaborate April Fool prank – while doing a round-up of the papers live on CityTalk.
Our story was about how the council had spent over £100,000 to convert road signs into Mandarin ahead of the Shanghai Expo.
He enthused about, and defended, the plans, adding: “The papers are a bit critical, saying it’s potentially a waste of money, but I think, taking Liverpool forward, we’ve got to try to encourage investment and I think this could be a positive thing.”
Today, he could not be drawn on whether he had fallen for the prank.
“It was all fun in the newsroom. We even had one girl who had been told to come in her pyjamas,” he said.
“I enjoyed the practical joke. It was all good fun.”
