Phil Thompson and Graeme Sharp
TWO Merseyside football legends swapped shirts yesterday as part of a year-long campaign to give a popular residential home for underprivileged kids a much-needed facelift.
Both Phil Thompson and Graeme Sharp swallowed their pride and donned the colours of their respective rivals – the blue of Everton for Liverpool FC legend Phil, and Liverpool red in the case of ex-Everton FC frontman Graeme. It was part of an April Fools’ Day event by the Dolly Hall charity for Liverpool and Everton fans sponsored to wear their rival club’s shirts.
The campaign hopes to raise £500,000 and grant the hall a much-needed facelift.
The Welsh residential home has welcomed more than 25,000 underprivileged youngsters through its doors and provides a range of activities, including outdoor pursuits.
Among the thousands of youngsters who benefited from a mini-break at the centre was Phil himself, who went to Dolly Hall while a youngster at Brookfield School in Kirkby.
He said: “Sometimes it was the only holiday kids got, but it was a good learning process for us as well, because we learnt about the countryside.
“I would only wear an Everton shirt for something I strongly believed in!”
