Liverpool’s Beatles-themed Hard Days Night Hotel closes for flood repairs

Hard Days Night Hotel

LIVERPOOL’S Beatles-themed Hard Day’s Night Hotel will be shut for 10 days as damage caused by a flood in the basement last Christmas is repaired.

The hotel will remain closed until April 21 while work is done to its electrical systems, which were damaged when a pipe leaked on December 29 last year.

Guests had to be evacuated from the 110-bedroom, four-star city centre hotel for safety reasons as electricity technicians arrived to cut off the power supply.

Hot water from the broken pipe poured into the basement of the Grade II-listed building, causing the damage.

The hotel re-opened in time for its New Year’s Eve party.

Hotel guests due to stay at the hotel over the next 10 days have been offered alternative accommodation.

Hotel manager Mike Dewey last night said: “We are really looking forward to getting the hotel back up and running after this temporary closure, just in time for the May bank holiday weekend, which is always a busy time for us.

“We would like to thank everyone involved with the repairs both now and back in December, including the fire service, which acted quickly and efficiently to prevent even more damage to the hotel.”

December’s flood proved problematic for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, which had to speedily call in Manweb to isolate the electricity in case anyone was electrocuted.

Three fire crews were called to the hotel, in North John Street, to pump out the water.

Speaking at the time, watch manager Andy Burton told the Daily Post: “There was a leak and all the water ended up in the basement.

“It was hot water and it created steam all over the place.

“It was like a sauna down there.

“We had to wait for Manweb to come out and isolate the electricity so we could go in and start pumping it out without getting electrocuted.

“I asked for extra personnel to be able to get the water pumped out quicker.
