Liverpool family of Christopher McBride slam probation service as Jacaranda killer John Frazer waits to hear his parole decision

THE family of a Liverpool graduate who was punched to death in a bar last night pleaded with the authorities to keep his killer behind bars.

John Frazer, who attacked Christopher McBride in the Jacaranda, faced parole bosses on Wednesday to consider his future.

Frazer, from Halewood, could be sent to an open prison or released back into the community less than five years after killing the Oxford University graduate.

But the family of his 25-year-old victim said they would be shattered if Frazer was freed from jail.

They also claimed the Probation Service has routinely denied them the right to be told the type of facility where the killer is being held.

The McBride family were previously assured Frazer was in a Category B jail, a more stringent regime for inmates, but it has emerged he is being kept in a less strict Category C facility.

Christopher’s mother Maria, of Aigburth, said: “There is up to 14 days to be told the verdict, but I will probably be the last to know.

“They kept telling me Frazer was in a Category B jail, but he is not. We do not know how long he has been there.

“Category C is a whole different ball game. I got a phone call from the Probation Service about possible conditions for Frazer if he is released on licence, just an hour and a half before the hearing.

“I am angry and disillusioned with the system.”
