Wirral warehouse goes up in flames for second time in a week

A HUGE blaze swept through a warehouse in Merseyside for the second time in a week.

Firefighters were called to the derelict building next to Cammell Laird, in Birkenhead, as smoke poured into the air.

Earlier this week, crews fought to contain a massive explosion in the warehouse in Campbeltown Road.

The first inferno, which was tackled by 70 firefighters at its height, was believed to have started in a John S Braid owned warehouse on Monday evening.

Merseyside Fire Service were called to the same location at 2.50pm on Saturday following reports of another fire.

A spokeswoman said: “We went back out there with four appliances.

“It was caused by oil from an electrical transformer which caught fire.”
